Beyond Desires – Chapter 5

Maya was anxious to know what made Sushma compromise on her principles? Or is she thinking too much into this, without discussing it with her friend? Deeply engrossed in her inner dilemma, she didn’t realize the time, it was past midnight when she heard some hushed commotion from the Ruby’s Pub backyard.

She could see Ruby pacing back and forth holding her head and blabbering something. Calling her from Maya’s flat balcony would require her to scream, and this late in the night that would be uncivilized. Hence, she thought of going down the street to ask her friend what’s wrong.

Maya wore a nightdress jacket on top of her satin night shorts and top, stepped into her flip-flops, and started climbing down the stairs. It was almost 03:00 am in the night and the entire building was resting in shady eerie silence. Once at Ruby’s backdoor, Maya asked security to let her in. She could see Ruby is troubled for something while crossing the empty barrel junk and broken old bottles.

‘Ruby, what’s wrong why are you pacing like crazy?’

‘Oh, babe thank God you are here. I didn’t know what to do, Jatin isn’t picking his phone and he was supposed to meet the client today.’ Ruby was clearly distressed.

‘Meet clients, as in NOW?’ asked Maya.

‘Yeah, they are from Japan. We are in talks with them for two months now. And if this won’t work, you know how much trouble I would be in, babe.’

Maya pondered for a while, ‘show me the papers or have you made a presentation? I will talk to the Japanese. When is the meeting scheduled? I will just go and change.’

Ruby looked at Maya with animated eyes, ‘you can do that, I mean, of course, you can do that… but will you really do that for me?’

‘Don’t act crazy, show me the files now.’

Ruby took her inside to the office and handed over the files plus a drive that have all the presentations, Jatin made for the meeting.

Maya started going through each file, one by one, and scanned through the presentations. She wrote down all the key points on a paper and analyzed the keynotes once again to be doubly sure. By the time she thought it’s all set, and she could go to change, Ruby arrived in the room flashing her wristwatch.

‘What! I can’t meet with your clients in my nightdress, are you mad!’ Maya yelped looking at her friend.

‘Wait, I have something that you can put on to hide your sexiness darling,’ Ruby said while opening her office cupboard.

‘This (handing over a male’s jacket to Maya), I think this would fit you just fine. It is Jatin’s he left it here last night, he was working till morning on these files.’

Maya looked at the jacket, she knows it so well he has great taste when it comes to apparel, this semi-formal jacket is one of her favorites. Sleek brown-tan-colored office jacket that Jatin wears on his smart casuals in the office.

She reluctantly took that from Ruby’s hands, the fabric was soft and delicate, just the way his touch was that night. A whiff from the jacket reminded her of their rendezvous two months ago, the memories sent a shiver down her spine. Reminiscences of that night were still so fresh in her mind, but the post math ruined her pleasure-trail and she got back to present, in Ruby’s office preparing to meet the client over an online call.

Maya wore Jatin’s jacket that Ruby handed her, finger-combed her hair, and started the video call. Ruby was sitting beside her and visibly very nervous, Maya held her hand to assure – all is under control. The meeting lasted 45 minutes, Japs were pretty happy with what they were offered in the deal and almost okayed it to take it further.

Once logged out from the meet, Ruby hugged Maya and planted a kiss on her cheek. ‘You are my savior baby girl, you saved me today. You saved Ruby’s today. Tell me what do you want from me?’

Maya was happy seeing her friend cheering like a little kid, she removed Jatin’s jacket and handed over to Ruby, ‘for now, just take it away from me.’

‘It was looking much better on you, than me Maya’.

Jatin was standing by the office door, leaning toward the window with hand-folded by his chest. Blue office shirt with sleeves folded till elbows, front two buttons open to display his well-chiseled upper body. Sharp jaw-line with a fine stubble, eyes gawking straight at Maya. He was oozing masculinity and Maya just couldn’t take her eyes away from him.

Maya doesn’t want to go back to the same spiral, that has given her heartache and betrayal in the past. What will happen next, would she accept her feeling for Jatin. How will she explain to Sushma about the wrong choices she had made for sustaining the job. To know more, stay tuned for the next story.

Everything happens for a reason, and that’s true! Shalini is a smart woman who has full control over her life when a wave of fresh breeze came in from the window and shakes her belief.

Read part three, here.

She has seen and suffered a lot in the past, her failed marriage not only broke the core belief in love but also made her an isolated island. A land safeguarding itself against all odds. She made a decision a long time ago, never to fall for the four-letter ‘L’ word, but life has given her another chance. Will she accept it?

Samar has an art of keeping people involved, be it his business associates or personal interests. He is a people’s person and prefers long term relationships in business and life. After the tragic loss of his girlfriend, he rebooted all his life to create wealth and fame. Today, he masters in the art of ‘eco-sustainable solutions’ in interior design. Among the best in the world, that’s what brought him to India to strengthen a foothold in the Indian market.

His business meeting with Shalini is making him do all the things again, which he thought were left him for good. These are two people with troubled pasts and broken hearts, sometimes when two broken hearts meet, miracles do take place!

“You look pleased sunshine! what’s the good news? We have done something great, didn’t we?” Leena asked Shalini handing her the coffee mug.

Shalini is happier than her usual self, or is it because of the warm brown-colored sheath dress she is wearing today? Her eyes seem smiling too, there is something different about today morning, Leena hasn’t seen her like this in the longest time.

The week has started with a happy note, but the task ahead is gigantic. The most awaited verdict of the big-fat case Daruwala & Associates undertook is happening in a few days. The whole team is stressed to get every minute detail checked when Leena informed about Samar’s arrival.

He stood by the desk, encircled by the blueprints rolled up nicely, crisp and smart. His powerful gaze and sensual smile filled the reception area with warmth. She could feel the sensations reverberating through her body.

“You look hot! What’s the reason, don’t break my heart please”, he gave the most animated look she could imagine.

“Samar”, her voice had a hint of smile and desire despite of her best efforts.

“What’s all this.” Glancing at the piles of rolled blue-prints spread across the visitor’s table.

“So that you don’t get any chance to push me away anymore, here are the designs to renovate this grimly place.” he gave her a kinked smile.

Carla cheered up from behind the desk, “didn’t I say last week this place require a turn-around?”

“Well, yes Carla, but we don’t need any renovations NOW.” Shalini looked at him irritably.

Samar isn’t going to let it go without a fight, “Look, you have to give it a thought, this place needs a change of perspective.”

“Not now Samar, I am very busy and don’t have any time to discuss things that are not relevant.” Her eyes darkened with irritation.

He took a deep breath, picked up the rolls and started walking towards the lift in dismay.

She looked uncertain and dashed to stop him, entering the lift she braced herself, “What do you want Samar?”

“Maybe we can go out on a date tonight?” he said modestly.

She wasn’t expecting this, it was a sudden to her system. Her throat went dry and she couldn’t mutter a single word.

His eyes gleamed, and she could feel the shivers raising on her body. His broad shoulders, boyish grin and elegant charm made her core numb with desires she buried deep inside.

“Why?” she mumbled.

“Please! Just one date.”

“That’s it?” she said numbly. “Okay.”

His eyes lit up, he picked her up in arms with joy, kissed her on the cheek. “I will pick you at 8.”

Only for you

My Love Story

My Z Way to Happiness

Looks like we made it
Look how far we’ve come my baby
We mighta took the long way
We knew we’d get there someday!! – Shania Twain

When they met for the very first time, nothing actually happened! He was riding pillion on a friend’s bike, and she chattering around with her friends. Their eyes never met, no sparks, no bells or violin, it was business as usual, absolute contrast to what they show in romantic movies. Nevertheless, there is much more to this story.

The same place of learning but different years, one senior to another but destiny had plans that will soon coincide their paths. A common friend assists in preliminary introductions, he likes her simplicity instantly, but she hates him for wasting the youth in cigarette’s smoke.

They say opposite attracts, and in reality, is it really true, let’s see. Though she never liked his aura, it stunk of impetuous, recklessness, and not to forget the smoke, but there was something about him that made her heart jump out of it’s cavity (mostly). He is true to her assumptions, was not bothered but still ventured around her hostel during the evenings for reasons best known to him. Their bonding felt like a far fetched call – ‘as girls like her don’t fall in love with boys like him.’

What is meant to be will always find its way! – Anonymous.

It was a fortunate afternoon, she saw him worried over things beyond himself. Their interaction brought hope and a connection that was new and unfamiliar to both. This planted the seeds of friendship which will progress from being friends to life partners.

Years passed, feelings strengthened they were one but distant on geographical lines. Long-Distance Relationship! Life goes on, graduated from college, settled in their respective careers, and their love blossomed.

As they say ‘Time and tide wait for none’, but here it waited for the whole five years until they had elders blessings.

Ye hai meri kahaani! This post is the last love story of the series – Short Love Stories. Sharing a beautiful song by Shania Twain which so much resonates my feelings for him – man I love and life for. Hope you enjoyed these stories, as much as I do writing them for you.
