The Secret Crush – Part 1

It’s a payday, and Natasha never delays her payments she knows how everyone eagerly awaits the credit notifications, including her mother in the far distant village. Moving to the big city was the right decision all those years ago, she thought to herself.

Her younger brother finished his MBA last year and procured a high-yielding job in a multinational, even the elder sister’s debt was paid off and her kids are studying in good boarding schools from the money Natasha sends her bi-yearly. Mother is living a comfortable life in a ‘mansion-like home’ with a string of caretakers at their village home. She throws lavish ceremonial functions every year on her father’s death anniversary. Everyone is settled in life and doing just fine, away from any financial botherations thanks to their ever-giving Natasha Didi.

She moved her slender fingers on the keypad and multiple payments were cleared instantly, she took a long sip of her sparkling water when she heard a familiar voice. ‘It’s time to board Ms. Sahni, this way please,’ said a young handsome man in a white crisp shirt and dark blue trousers. As Natasha got up from her Emirates First Class lounge with a nod, he took a step back to admire the beauty she was. Every fortnight he awaits her arrival at the terminal, to guide and escort her to the business class lounge and then finally to the aircraft.

He was smitten by Natasha’s elegance and mesmerizing beauty ever since the administration assigned him to celebrity management affairs. It is been more than two years now, that Aman has been taking care of Natasha’s airport transition. But their conversations never grew beyond pleasantries and directions. She had never been rude or irrational to him, unlike other high-profile clients and he never tried to cross the professional boundaries.

There was something mystifying about the lady, she was the epitome of grace and feminine elegance, he secretly wished to be her lover, but didn’t have the courage to disrupt the work liaison. He was aware of her personal communication details, courtesy job requirements, but Aman never took advantage of the information or drunk-dialed her in late at night. However, he contemplated it numerous times, especially when all his friends were having steady steamy relationships.

Natasha was aware of the affinity Aman had for her, but she knew how to create boundaries. All her life, she has done that with utter perfection – make boundaries. Also, he is just a pup, a very young boy who has no inkling about life. A kid straight out of college to earn some bucks and score credits for his future studies, he has no idea what poverty, hunger, or what life is. She keeps a safe distance from him, not for herself but for him to steer clear of her. She is dangerous for his life and any future he has dreamed of.

But today is not as usual, he had a plan to put in motion. Aman showed her the window seat and handed the other details to the flight steward. As Natasha settled in her seat and started digging her handbag for currency, Aman bent down towards her to fix the seatbelt. She was taken aback by this sudden closeness, stunned her lips parted to say something, but she could not say a word. His eyes, deep brown irises reflected the light from the window and looked angelic. Sharp jaw with a light hue of stubble, a shapely nose, and those kissable lips he looks like a supermodel on the GQ cover page. What the hell is he doing as airline ground staff, she thought to herself.

Lost in the moment, Natasha didn’t realise when he asked her to hand over her handbag for stacking below the seat. ‘Where do you want to keep the handbag, Ms. Sahni?’, he prodded again.

Abashedly she looked away handing over the bag in his direction, he took the designer Prada bag from her hand, when his thumb gently brushed against her wrist. The touch was oblivious but Natasha felt warmth – something she misses on her work escapades.

Come join me tomorrow for the next part of Natasha and Aman’s story.

Beyond Desires – Chapter 5

July 1, 2021

Maya was anxious to know what made Sushma compromise on her principles? Or is she thinking too much into this, without discussing it with her friend? Deeply engrossed in her inner dilemma, she didn’t realize the time, it was past midnight when she heard some hushed commotion from the Ruby’s Pub backyard.

She could see Ruby pacing back and forth holding her head and blabbering something. Calling her from Maya’s flat balcony would require her to scream, and this late in the night that would be uncivilized. Hence, she thought of going down the street to ask her friend what’s wrong.

Maya wore a nightdress jacket on top of her satin night shorts and top, stepped into her flip-flops, and started climbing down the stairs. It was almost 03:00 am in the night and the entire building was resting in shady eerie silence. Once at Ruby’s backdoor, Maya asked security to let her in. She could see Ruby is troubled for something while crossing the empty barrel junk and broken old bottles.

‘Ruby, what’s wrong why are you pacing like crazy?’

‘Oh, babe thank God you are here. I didn’t know what to do, Jatin isn’t picking his phone and he was supposed to meet the client today.’ Ruby was clearly distressed.

‘Meet clients, as in NOW?’ asked Maya.

‘Yeah, they are from Japan. We are in talks with them for two months now. And if this won’t work, you know how much trouble I would be in, babe.’

Maya pondered for a while, ‘show me the papers or have you made a presentation? I will talk to the Japanese. When is the meeting scheduled? I will just go and change.’

Ruby looked at Maya with animated eyes, ‘you can do that, I mean, of course, you can do that… but will you really do that for me?’

‘Don’t act crazy, show me the files now.’

Ruby took her inside to the office and handed over the files plus a drive that have all the presentations, Jatin made for the meeting.

Maya started going through each file, one by one, and scanned through the presentations. She wrote down all the key points on a paper and analyzed the keynotes once again to be doubly sure. By the time she thought it’s all set, and she could go to change, Ruby arrived in the room flashing her wristwatch.

‘What! I can’t meet with your clients in my nightdress, are you mad!’ Maya yelped looking at her friend.

‘Wait, I have something that you can put on to hide your sexiness darling,’ Ruby said while opening her office cupboard.

‘This (handing over a male’s jacket to Maya), I think this would fit you just fine. It is Jatin’s he left it here last night, he was working till morning on these files.’

Maya looked at the jacket, she knows it so well he has great taste when it comes to apparel, this semi-formal jacket is one of her favorites. Sleek brown-tan-colored office jacket that Jatin wears on his smart casuals in the office.

She reluctantly took that from Ruby’s hands, the fabric was soft and delicate, just the way his touch was that night. A whiff from the jacket reminded her of their rendezvous two months ago, the memories sent a shiver down her spine. Reminiscences of that night were still so fresh in her mind, but the post math ruined her pleasure-trail and she got back to present, in Ruby’s office preparing to meet the client over an online call.

Maya wore Jatin’s jacket that Ruby handed her, finger-combed her hair, and started the video call. Ruby was sitting beside her and visibly very nervous, Maya held her hand to assure – all is under control. The meeting lasted 45 minutes, Japs were pretty happy with what they were offered in the deal and almost okayed it to take it further.

Once logged out from the meet, Ruby hugged Maya and planted a kiss on her cheek. ‘You are my savior baby girl, you saved me today. You saved Ruby’s today. Tell me what do you want from me?’

Maya was happy seeing her friend cheering like a little kid, she removed Jatin’s jacket and handed over to Ruby, ‘for now, just take it away from me.’

‘It was looking much better on you, than me Maya’.

Jatin was standing by the office door, leaning toward the window with hand-folded by his chest. Blue office shirt with sleeves folded till elbows, front two buttons open to display his well-chiseled upper body. Sharp jaw-line with a fine stubble, eyes gawking straight at Maya. He was oozing masculinity and Maya just couldn’t take her eyes away from him.

Maya doesn’t want to go back to the same spiral, that has given her heartache and betrayal in the past. What will happen next, would she accept her feeling for Jatin. How will she explain to Sushma about the wrong choices she had made for sustaining the job. To know more, stay tuned for the next story.

Living with your ex

Living with Your EX

Raghu was enjoying his early morning tea when the doorbell rang twice breaking the morning silence. He rushed to answer the door before it rings again, it was the society’s watchman.

‘Sir, yesterday night madam left the car lights open. Give me keys I will close and return back.’

Handing over the keys he recalled last night’s events. Avantika came very late in the night, after shower she simply jumped on to sleep without uttering a single word.

Life has been going like this ever since Raghu left a well-paid job and position in a top-notch MNC to follow his dreams. Social Media Consultation, he has lived in digital marketing for over 1.5 decades. Being an expert in the area, he decided to become an entrepreneur by forming a small media agency – Magma Media Works.

The shift from salaried to self-employed left them lighter of their savings and mutual trust. Avantika never liked the idea of quitting a career in the hay days of work-earn-save to start a new venture.

Beginning with small arguments to the arrogant battles of ego, in the last few months they have seen it all. Life is turning bitter at every corner, Avantika spending more time outside home and Raghu immersed himself in social media analytics.

‘Car lights were left on yesterday night Anu!’ he said seeing her entering the living room, still yawning.

‘Okay.’ she was uninterested.

‘Were you drunk? Hope you didn’t drive inebriated at least.’ he snarled.

‘Don’t start early in the morning for God sake, Raghu.’ She was clearly annoyed with the morning banter.

‘I have asked you a simple question, answer me and carry on. Why you getting worked up?’ Raghu insisted.

‘Okay! Granny, Yes I had a few drinks with friends. No I did not drive, Lizzy’s brother dropped me home. Probably he left the lights on. Okay, now happy.’

‘Lizzy’s brother, wow! That looks like an extended club.’ he was clearly surprised.

She simply waved at him in dismay and walked towards the bathroom. ‘I won’t be here for long, tell Lakshmi not to cook for me.’

‘But it’s Saturday where are you going?’ he questioned further.

‘OUT. Raghu, stop your bloody interrogation!’ she dashed inside closing the door behind with a loud thud.

The altercation left Raghu jolted, all he wished for a little transparency between them. Avantika, on the other hand, is turning more and more elusive with her choices, plans, and eventually life.

Their marriage of six years has hit a rock bottom, it is better to leave the arrangement which only brings disharmony and pain. But, at times life is more than feelings, it is about livelihood and transactions too. This makes things complicated, the same is the case between Raghu and Avantika.

Despite the differences and almost no compassion left, they agreed to live under the same roof for reasons best known to them. The arrangement they call – ‘Living with your eX.’
