The Secret Crush – Part 1

It’s a payday, and Natasha never delays her payments she knows how everyone eagerly awaits the credit notifications, including her mother in the far distant village. Moving to the big city was the right decision all those years ago, she thought to herself.

Her younger brother finished his MBA last year and procured a high-yielding job in a multinational, even the elder sister’s debt was paid off and her kids are studying in good boarding schools from the money Natasha sends her bi-yearly. Mother is living a comfortable life in a ‘mansion-like home’ with a string of caretakers at their village home. She throws lavish ceremonial functions every year on her father’s death anniversary. Everyone is settled in life and doing just fine, away from any financial botherations thanks to their ever-giving Natasha Didi.

She moved her slender fingers on the keypad and multiple payments were cleared instantly, she took a long sip of her sparkling water when she heard a familiar voice. ‘It’s time to board Ms. Sahni, this way please,’ said a young handsome man in a white crisp shirt and dark blue trousers. As Natasha got up from her Emirates First Class lounge with a nod, he took a step back to admire the beauty she was. Every fortnight he awaits her arrival at the terminal, to guide and escort her to the business class lounge and then finally to the aircraft.

He was smitten by Natasha’s elegance and mesmerizing beauty ever since the administration assigned him to celebrity management affairs. It is been more than two years now, that Aman has been taking care of Natasha’s airport transition. But their conversations never grew beyond pleasantries and directions. She had never been rude or irrational to him, unlike other high-profile clients and he never tried to cross the professional boundaries.

There was something mystifying about the lady, she was the epitome of grace and feminine elegance, he secretly wished to be her lover, but didn’t have the courage to disrupt the work liaison. He was aware of her personal communication details, courtesy job requirements, but Aman never took advantage of the information or drunk-dialed her in late at night. However, he contemplated it numerous times, especially when all his friends were having steady steamy relationships.

Natasha was aware of the affinity Aman had for her, but she knew how to create boundaries. All her life, she has done that with utter perfection – make boundaries. Also, he is just a pup, a very young boy who has no inkling about life. A kid straight out of college to earn some bucks and score credits for his future studies, he has no idea what poverty, hunger, or what life is. She keeps a safe distance from him, not for herself but for him to steer clear of her. She is dangerous for his life and any future he has dreamed of.

But today is not as usual, he had a plan to put in motion. Aman showed her the window seat and handed the other details to the flight steward. As Natasha settled in her seat and started digging her handbag for currency, Aman bent down towards her to fix the seatbelt. She was taken aback by this sudden closeness, stunned her lips parted to say something, but she could not say a word. His eyes, deep brown irises reflected the light from the window and looked angelic. Sharp jaw with a light hue of stubble, a shapely nose, and those kissable lips he looks like a supermodel on the GQ cover page. What the hell is he doing as airline ground staff, she thought to herself.

Lost in the moment, Natasha didn’t realise when he asked her to hand over her handbag for stacking below the seat. ‘Where do you want to keep the handbag, Ms. Sahni?’, he prodded again.

Abashedly she looked away handing over the bag in his direction, he took the designer Prada bag from her hand, when his thumb gently brushed against her wrist. The touch was oblivious but Natasha felt warmth – something she misses on her work escapades.

Come join me tomorrow for the next part of Natasha and Aman’s story.

Recap Part 1 – Shalini is a brilliant lawyer with an immaculate winning record, she heads one of the most successful law firms. Mr. Daruwala, her predecessor, father-figure asks him to meet Samar, a famous awarded interior designer based out of Spain. Their first meeting ignited a few dormant feelings in Shalini, who immersed herself in work after a bitter divorce. To read the full post, Chasing Dreams, click here.

“Do you think we require some renovation around the office Leena?” quipped Shalini while having a jerky sandwich and taking mental notes of day’s rotations.

Leena’s eyes hovered over the rim of her spectacles, “what’s wrong with it! Didn’t we get new furnishings and window panes just last year?” she shrugged in skepticism.

“You have three meetings before the Bar council’s address at 3:00 pm, shall I mark your calendar locked for the day?” Leena asked.

Shalini frowned, shaking her head while she got up to gaze at the skyline. “Go ahead.”

It was a fine sunny day but Shalini looking beat, partly due to the lack of sleep. She hardly slept through the week thanks to extra work-load at the office. But there was something else, that made her feel adrift. She didn’t address the issue yet.

Her meetings were at a nearby location, she pulled over her jacket and started toward the lift when a message beeped on her cell-phone.

“Brown is your color, matches the warmth of your eyes. Ciao Sam.”

She read and re-read the text multiple times, this man has some guts! Just one meeting and he is texting, seriously! She was bewildered by his approach, flirtatious. Still furious over the text, she entered the lift when the doors opened, while disembarking, she nervously checked her beige shift dress in the mirror! That’s my color, she voted for herself.

After the meeting she grabbed her favorite Fish Tacos with avocado crème from the nearby café, her cell phone buzzed again, it was Ketan Daruwala this time.

“Bar council asked me to take vice-chairman’s position, what do you think about that?” Mr. Daruwala is an octogenarian and is highly involved in day-to-day procedures of legal scenarios. Straightforward, and ludicrously outspoken. Never hide things from him, or he has the ability to gut it out from you without getting his hands dirty.

“That’s wonderful, after all, you made it to the chair. How are sugar levels today?” Shalini lost her dad to cancer in college’s final year. Ketan Daruwala is her mentor/guru, father-figure, and strict boss depending on the situation.

“Answer what I asked you for goddammit!! How is Samar? Did you meet him, he is a lovely chap. Just like his father. Hope you didn’t push him away like other boys?” he dissed out a glum sound. The same sound he makes when stuck with her in loggerheads.

Shalini was surprised by the way this conversation heading, “What have you started matchmaking again? Get some job for fuck’s sake. You are incorrigible empty head.”

After a little war of words, she picked up the pace to reach the office in time. While passing by the corner, her eye caught a glimpse of Haute-couture designer exhibition ad on the billboard. Nudging herself on the head, she thought, this is definitely first; ‘a fashion ad got my attention! Phew… get hold of it, Shalini!’

It was 3:00 am in the morning when her phone vibrated, she picked it up to find an unknown number flashing on the screen. “Hey Shalini, it’s me, Sam. Your advice – bullseye man! I got them under the claw. You are a genius! Just genius.” Samar’s voice was reverberating his happiness.

“I am glad it worked! Just get them to sign on the dotted line, and then we can discuss further” She waited a few seconds before hanging up when Samar replied; “Yes, I am coming around next week for a property exhibition and to meet you. I mean to discuss the case with you”. He tried to cover that up, but words were already blurted out and received by the other end.

“And before you go back to the ugly dark meeting room, I am sending you some designs for the office renovation. Please, don’t say no as this is the only way I can pay up for what your valuable advice and time.”

What is he, a teenager! Shalini rumbled incoherently, “it’s 3 in the morning here, Samar. Thank you for the gesture, but we don’t need any renovations as of now.”

“I am so sorry for disturbing your beauty sleep gorgeous! Let me reach India then we will discuss what do to with your place. Ciao.” he disconnected.

She kept the phone down and pulled back her blanket, but sleep has left her for good. Is he a kid, how can a man with his stature be so… juvenile? No, that’s not what he is, his eyes are sharp and smart. He finds the minutest of the details which interest him! She couldn’t get his ecstatic voice off from her mind.

Come back tomorrow for the next part of Samar and Shalini’s story. The post is written as part of #A2ZChallenge & #BlogchatterA2Z.

To Be With You Forever!

Maya checked her watch millionth time in the last half an hour or so, she is super annoyed by this habit of Feroz, never following the time.

She was categorically clear in her call, ‘I will be free by 12:40 so you reach café at least 20 minutes before that, without fail,’ knowing well he will be late again.

Ordering her second mocha, she dialed his number to say ‘did I forgot to mention today’s date in my call yesterday?’

‘Geez, hold your horses’ lady! At the parking, coming up in 5, order for me please, starving here.’ Feroz replied amusingly.

He entered the cafe holding white lilies (Maya’s favorite) in one hand and clutching helmet by another, wearing the same apologetic smile as ever.

‘Sorry! You know I left on time, but….’ But before he could complete his statement, Maya stopped him in between.

‘ENOUGH of your excuses! The only expectation I have from you is value my time, Fero! Just that, a minuscule thing. How many times! Huh, tell me how many times did I mention, I have a meeting, be on time. But no, you never value anyone else’s time. GROW UP please.’ She blurted her anger wildly.

Feroz scanned around to see how many witnesses to this verbal assault, ‘I said sorry, it won’t happen again. Trust me!’

Maya frowned, ‘How can I trust a man who can’t even keep his own words?’

She waited for retaliation, but there was none.

‘Now say something, don’t you have anything to answer? What was more important than meeting me?’ she questioned impatiently.

‘As I was telling earlier, the delay isn’t intentional Maya. I went to…’ he couldn’t complete his statement again as the steward walked in with their food and drinks.

She signaled at the food and checked her watch again. ‘I precisely have 15 minutes, let’s eat!’

Biting into her sandwich she looked at Feroz, and signed him to hurry up.

‘Sometimes I feel, you act more like a school principal than my girlfriend’, he deliberately provoked her.

‘If I would have been your Principal Feroz, I swear would have suspended you for good.’ Her voice was clear and confident.

Feroz loves this zestful banter between them, she always finds a mistake to vent out her anger and keep on fuming over small little things.

‘Thank heavens we are not married yet otherwise, you would have thrown me out of home, isn’t it?’ he questioned her taking a large bite of grilled chicken.

She didn’t answer, she just raised an eyebrow in exasperation. His signal of treading on dangerous ground.

‘So now you don’t want to marry me? This was all about marriage huh Fero?’ she asked him in a feeble voice.

Feroz whacked himself mentally for talking out of proportion, again! Her presence often makes him goof up for which he repents later. Either by wiping off her tears or a cold war of a few days.

‘No! No! Not at all, I didn’t mean that, babe. I just joked about you being particular about timings and all. Please don’t get mad on me, now.’ Pleading forgiveness is the best resort, he learned this years ago.

Their banter went on and on, Maya called for the bill when she overheard an old couple sitting on the next table.

The older man said “We were like them once, remember Rosie. Now, it’s just me who talks and you listen silently.”

She turned to look at the lady, her eyes were fixed on the husband without blinking or any emotions. The old man wiped her mouth with the handkerchief after giving her a small bite of lemon cake.

Maya could feel guilt building inside her, she turned back to Feroz and held his hand tightly. ‘I Love you, Fero.’

He pulled out a box kept firmly beneath his helmet, it was the same ring she sent him the day before yesterday on Instagram with a note, ‘I want you to propose me for marriage with something like this.’

Tears swelled into her eyes and she hugged him tightly.

THE END
