The Secret Crush – Part 1

It’s a payday, and Natasha never delays her payments she knows how everyone eagerly awaits the credit notifications, including her mother in the far distant village. Moving to the big city was the right decision all those years ago, she thought to herself.

Her younger brother finished his MBA last year and procured a high-yielding job in a multinational, even the elder sister’s debt was paid off and her kids are studying in good boarding schools from the money Natasha sends her bi-yearly. Mother is living a comfortable life in a ‘mansion-like home’ with a string of caretakers at their village home. She throws lavish ceremonial functions every year on her father’s death anniversary. Everyone is settled in life and doing just fine, away from any financial botherations thanks to their ever-giving Natasha Didi.

She moved her slender fingers on the keypad and multiple payments were cleared instantly, she took a long sip of her sparkling water when she heard a familiar voice. ‘It’s time to board Ms. Sahni, this way please,’ said a young handsome man in a white crisp shirt and dark blue trousers. As Natasha got up from her Emirates First Class lounge with a nod, he took a step back to admire the beauty she was. Every fortnight he awaits her arrival at the terminal, to guide and escort her to the business class lounge and then finally to the aircraft.

He was smitten by Natasha’s elegance and mesmerizing beauty ever since the administration assigned him to celebrity management affairs. It is been more than two years now, that Aman has been taking care of Natasha’s airport transition. But their conversations never grew beyond pleasantries and directions. She had never been rude or irrational to him, unlike other high-profile clients and he never tried to cross the professional boundaries.

There was something mystifying about the lady, she was the epitome of grace and feminine elegance, he secretly wished to be her lover, but didn’t have the courage to disrupt the work liaison. He was aware of her personal communication details, courtesy job requirements, but Aman never took advantage of the information or drunk-dialed her in late at night. However, he contemplated it numerous times, especially when all his friends were having steady steamy relationships.

Natasha was aware of the affinity Aman had for her, but she knew how to create boundaries. All her life, she has done that with utter perfection – make boundaries. Also, he is just a pup, a very young boy who has no inkling about life. A kid straight out of college to earn some bucks and score credits for his future studies, he has no idea what poverty, hunger, or what life is. She keeps a safe distance from him, not for herself but for him to steer clear of her. She is dangerous for his life and any future he has dreamed of.

But today is not as usual, he had a plan to put in motion. Aman showed her the window seat and handed the other details to the flight steward. As Natasha settled in her seat and started digging her handbag for currency, Aman bent down towards her to fix the seatbelt. She was taken aback by this sudden closeness, stunned her lips parted to say something, but she could not say a word. His eyes, deep brown irises reflected the light from the window and looked angelic. Sharp jaw with a light hue of stubble, a shapely nose, and those kissable lips he looks like a supermodel on the GQ cover page. What the hell is he doing as airline ground staff, she thought to herself.

Lost in the moment, Natasha didn’t realise when he asked her to hand over her handbag for stacking below the seat. ‘Where do you want to keep the handbag, Ms. Sahni?’, he prodded again.

Abashedly she looked away handing over the bag in his direction, he took the designer Prada bag from her hand, when his thumb gently brushed against her wrist. The touch was oblivious but Natasha felt warmth – something she misses on her work escapades.

Come join me tomorrow for the next part of Natasha and Aman’s story.

No Matter What!! A Short Love Story

Ramya entered the room with a determination, today she will talk to her parents about him. It’s been 4 years now, they have been together in thick-and-thin, finally, it’s time to make it official.

Coming from an orthodox Brahman family she can foresee a conflict of opinions and choices. Ramya is the eldest daughter of the family, with two siblings – younger sister and a brother she is prepped for an emotional battle.

Her father loves solving crossword puzzles in the evening over the family coffee time. She often helps her dad with one or two answers, but today is the day she throws him a puzzle herself.

‘Appa, I want to talk to you and Amma about something’.

‘Hmm…’ studying the crossword section carefully.

‘Appa, did you hear what I said. I want to talk about something, to both of you.’ she repeated, knowing well his concentration is on the forming words.

‘What’s it about?’ her dad asked uninterestingly.

‘I… think, I want to tell you about… I mean’ she mumbled with the words.

‘Ramya, pass on the empty cup from Appa’s desk.’ mother sitting at the dining table.

‘I have to say something and all you guys are bothered about is a stupid crossword and empty cups.’ she whined irritatingly.

Her mother and father both looked up to face her and asked, ‘what is it?’ simultaneously.

With whole attention on her now, she jumbled with her words. Unable to understand what to say, she simply added, ‘tomorrow I will bring home a guest, be presentable and nice.’

Next day she met Ibrahim and narrated the entire scene from last evening. He giggled and laughed listening to her gibberish conversation with parents.

‘So now you want me to face your Amma and Appa to get roasted like a coffee bean, huh?’ he teased her further.

‘You have to come, Ibrahim, I can’t stand in front of their grilling eyes, alone. They will eat me alive!’ she squeaked wide-eyed.

‘Firstly, that’s absurd as your parents are vegetarians. Secondly, stop being anxious, you are making me nervous too.’ his reply was comforting.

‘What are we gonna do, if they don’t agree?’ she prodded.

Ibrahim shrugged his shoulders to uncertainty.

‘Whatever it will be, we will face it together babe, No Matter What!!’

Haunted love story

Possession – Haunted Love Story: Part Two

April 18, 2020

The villagers told many stories to Meena, along with Rohu and Banu’s undone love story. She was rather intrigued to know what happened next with them, did Rohu took the plunge and sacrificed her life? Or like any Bollywood story, Banu could save her at the last minute.

Around midnight seniors decided to call it a day without giving rest to her curiosity. She couldn’t sleep that night; the snippets of this fascinating story kept her imagination on high alert. Picking up her journal, she started writing about the haunted love story.

Engrossed with the story, she heard some ruffling sounds outside her old tattered hut. The sounds made her nervous, it could be anything, a tiger, hyena, wolf or any other wild animal. She picked up her flash light and started following the street lights, thinking to be in the center of the village would be safe. Meena had hardly crossed 100 meters distance on foot, when she sensed someone was following her.

Imagining all sorts of wild animals ready to pounce on her, she ran towards the main street right across the village chief’s home. Sprinting towards the porch, she glanced back to find pair of two feet following her. This relieved her tension and she stopped to ease down her heavy breathing.

She turned back and saw a young girl in her early twenties looking at her with immense curiosity. “Hey, what are you doing outside so late in the night?”

No reply!

“My name is Meena, I am a guest here, were you here at the time of campfire when elders were telling me about Rohu and Banu?”

No reply, but the name made her eyes twitch. She looked towards the jungle and pointed to a cliff.

“Do you live there? Isn’t that too far from the village?”

Girl just nodded her head in NO and started walking towards her pointed direction.

Meena followed the young girl, she picked up a bamboo stick from a nearby bundle, if any wild animal attacks that will come handy. They walked in silence for 20 minutes to reach the cliff’s landing joint.

The girl looked at Meena with lucid eyes showing her a point where two graves were etched among the shambles. She switched on the flashlight to take a better view, the markings took her breath away, they were the graves of her story’s protagonists.

She looked up to ask the girl about these graves and story ahead, but she wasn’t there anymore. This sudden jolt of disappearance made her insides churn out of fear. Did she just follow an apparition? Was it the spirit of Rohu?

Giddiness of sudden adrenaline rush made her light headed and she lost her consciousness. It was only in the early morning hours when villagers found her sleeping near the graves of two eternal lovers.

“How did you find this place, beta! This is deep interiors of the valley, outsiders cannot travel this far even with their fancy devices?” asked a villager.

She hesitated, “I don’t remember, baba, someone brought me here, ummm… I think a young girl.”

A sudden mumbling and hushed exchange of words made her nervous, she looked at the their scared faces and asked, “what’s the matter, please tell me?”

“You need to leave this place now! You must come with us, and then we will leave you to the nearby city!”

“But, baba, who was that girl? Why are you asking me to leave?” she argued.

The sarpanch replied, “you have not met any girl yesterday, beta. It was the spirit of Rohu who scours this region in search of her groom Banu.”

She is a modern-day girl who believes in technology, computers, and science. Ghosts, spirits, Dracula or vampires she likes them but only in books But, then what happened in the night still needs to be untangled.

Gaining her composure, she asked “lets complete what we started, and then I will leave this place.”

They went back to the village, after cleaning up she had her breakfast with the chief. He narrated her the next part of the story – Rohu decided to sacrifice her life, and jump off the cliff. When Banu learned about her intentions, he tried to convince her. He vowed to save her from every evil and promised to neve leave her side.

When the general’s men came to pick Rohu, they were informed about the marriage by the villagers. This made the young general very angry and he implicated Banu in a false case, to imprison him.

While he was taken to prison, somehow he overpowered the soldiers and fled to this very cliff. He went into hiding, to save his life but Britishers spread the false news that Banu fled leaving his young wife alone.

Rohu, couldn’t tolerate this news and she committed suicide jumping from the same cliff. When Banu learned about the fact he challenged English general and was killed by multiple bullets.

THE END.
